My mother was killed when I was still inside her, and I was kidnapped by an Ihlini sorcerer who would've used me against my family. My father abandoned me, ran away to the Crystal Isle to become a priest instead of the Prince of Homana he was meant to be. People say that he's mad, that he has fits, that he's not fit for the throne.

All I know is that he abandoned me.

My su'fali Ian died. My best friend Urchin and my guardian were killed by the same Ihlini who tried to kidnap me. Rogan would have given me over to the Ihlini. He was a traitor. My cousin Blais rescued me, healed me, became my liegeman, as is proper.

His lir was killed, and he abandoned me.

All of them, dead. Taken by the gods.

I will not be taken. I will have no lir, and be bound to no death-ritual. I will have no friends, because I will not let the gods take them away from me again.

Kellin is Cheysuli, but unlike other Cheysuli his age, he cannot take on lir-shape, because he has no lir. He shares the black hair of his Cheysuli kin, but his skin is paler and his eyes are green, both marks of his Erinnish heritage. He's about eighteen, and like most Cheysuli he wears the leathers of their race, though more for efficiency than because he follows Cheysuli customs.
